Strategy at
Billingley
The current strategic plan for the Billingley Herd, is to
keep the number of females at a manageable size and to concentrate on using
only the best bloodlines. To this end,
we have a policy in place to flush our top cow – ‘Billingley Jellybean’ - to
the best sires, resulting in consistently good calves. This policy has already been proved with an
extremely successful flush to PTI Prince which bred ‘Billingley Sir Alex’ and
‘Billingley Sibling’. Also a flush to
Doonally Olmeto has resulted in some excellent and powerful calves including
the heifer – ‘Billingley Billingley Females
At Billingley we aim to keep quality, balanced females with no extremes. This way, various sires can be used to achieve different characteristics more easily. Our most famous breeding line within the herd comes from Friarton Best. Purchased for 5 500gns, she is grandmother to all the above bulls, and has produced equally outstanding females. Billingley

Our current strategy to keep female numbers low has lead us to adopt the same strict policy with heifer calves. Only calves that are good enough for our herd are registered. Once they come of age, the required selection of these elite heifers is integrated into the herd as replacement females. This will also leave a number available for sale on farm and through the sale ring. Next Heifers for
